Our Top Five Eco Design Wood Burners For Your Conservatory or Shed
DEFRA Approved & A+ Rated Stoves
When looking to install a wood burning stove in a conservatory, shed, extension or garden room, you want to have low distances to combustibles, a stove that is suitable for a cosmetic hearth and an output that will be ample for the space.
It can be so frustrating when there are thousands of stoves out there in the market and you just aren’t sure which features you need for this type of installation. We wanted to take the pain out of this for you and apply our years of experience to save you hours of research.
This guide will give you our ‘TOP 5 wood burning and multi- fuel stoves’ for this type of application based on our experiences of installing 1000’s of stoves over the years.
Murray and McGregor are committed to the highest quality and most environmentally friendly stoves on the market. We do not sell any stoves that are not DEFRA approved to burn in smoke control areas and only deal with a select number of manufacturers who share our ethics and have 1st class service, long guarantees and excellent aftersales.
Every stove in our ‘Top 5’ is DEFRA approved, suitable for a cosmetic hearth, environmentally friendly, has low distances to combustibles and an energy rating of A+.
It should also be noted that all the stoves in our Top 5 now comply with ECO DESIGN which is the new benchmark that will be introduced in 2022, regarding the particulate emissions from stoves.
The efficiency and particulate emissions from these stoves will comply with future legislation, so you can future proof your investment and feel confident that you are not harming the environment.
#1. Di Lusso R4 Euro
There are so many reasons that this is our favourite wood burning stove to install in conservatories, sheds, extensions and garden rooms. So where do we start? Well it isn’t a bad looker is it? However, we think that even if the aesthetics’ of this stove were hideous it would probably still hang on to our #1 spot.
The reasons for this are a plenty but we have just got to start with the controls, the R4 Euro has two subtly hidden controls concealed behind the control panel which are the most intuitive controls we have ever used. This wood burning stove can be controlled with the ease of a gas fire, so that you can regulate the output with ease. The build quality is fantastic and when closing the door, you get the same sort of satisfaction you do when closing the door of an Audi.
There really is too much to mention about this stove. You can customise the side panels with flat or curved in either chrome or black, the distances to combustibles are tiny so you can pretty much position it anywhere without worry and it burns better than any other stove in its class.
An outstanding stove that would enhance any space.

#2. Parkray Aspect 5 on Log Plinth with Heat Shield
This is a very sexy stove and has paved the way for many ‘copy cat’ stoves to be launched by other manufactures over the last couple of years. The full Aspect range has a lot to offer and the Aspect 4 narrowly missed out on our Top 5, although to be fair, we could quite easily substitute any of the Aspect range here and wouldn’t be doing you a disservice.
There are lots of options, you can fit a heat shield to lower the distance to combustibles, you can sit any of the Aspect range on a log plinth of 150mm or 225mm high or if you want more options you can sit the stove on two different sized benches.
This stove has it all, it boasts a panoramic view of the burn chamber to die for and has a single control that is expertly designed to work the Triple Burn Technology baffle plates underneath the stove. This is such a versatile stove, that it will work in any space with the user able to put their own spin on the finished look with a list of customisable options. You can see the full aspect range here in their brochure.
This is a superior stove that will not let you down!

#3. TermaTech TT20 Streamline R
TermaTech stoves are made and designed in Scandinavia from NIBE who also manufacture Contura stoves and a whole host of renewable technologies such as air source heat pumps and biomass boilers. The build quality speaks for itself and despite the TT20 Streamline R being the entry level stove in the TT20 range they have not scrimped on usability or build quality. This is the most competitively priced, well built, modern cylindrical stove on the market today. Comparable stoves cost anywhere between £500- £1000 more than this little stunner.
The whole of the TT range is worth a look, but we must give the nod to the Streamline R for its simplicity and price point. At a mere £1,101.00 inc VAT it is hard to argue against this stove for value for money. It has a single control slider which allows you to regulate the primary, secondary and tertiary air and has a neat little log store under the body of the stove.
Distances to combustibles are great for conservatories, sheds, extensions and garden rooms so you have flexibility to position this stove in the tightest of spaces. The only potential downside that we can see is that it is a ‘pure wood burner’ with no ability to convert to multi-fuel and we think that the paint takes longer to cure than most other stoves. However, we are really ‘nit picking’ here as we have all come to expect a Scandinavian stove to be woodburning only and who really cares if it takes a few extra burns when first installed to fully cure the paint? Not us…
Great value for money and a welcome addition to our ‘Top 5’.

#4. ACR Rowandale
So, you want a more traditional looking stove without losing that big view of the fire?
The ACR Rowandale is a great cast iron stove that ticks the boxes for this type of application. The brushed stainless-steel handle adds a touch of modernity to a stove that has both feet firmly in the traditional stove camp, whilst retaining all the features of a modern woodburning stove.
It comes as multi-fuel as standard and is available in traditional matt black stove paint or a choice of luxurious enamel finishes of Buttermilk, Gloss Black, Cream or Majolica Brown.
We love the fact that not only can you change the colours, there is also an option to have long legs. At 200mm high this gives the stove more stature and lets it be the focal point that we all want in our conservatory, shed, extension or garden room. With a rear distance to combustibles of 150mm this is certainly giving the modern freestanding stoves a run for their money where flexibility of position is concerned.
Overall, a great workhorse that combines traditional elegance with modern functionality.

#5. Cleanburn Stromstad 5 (Sju / Atta versions also available)
This super stylish and elegant stove was an easy addition to our Top 5!
The wrap around glass and concealed handle seem to make it blend into any environment with ease. There are three stove choices in one with the Stromstad, the picture illustrates the Stromstad 5 but there is the Sju which is just the top part of the stove and the Atta which has a smaller log plinth enabling you to change the desired look without affecting the performance and controllability of this astounding stove.
This stove benefits from the Tripleburn Technology patented air system that the Di Lusso offers and comes as multi-fuel as standard. With breathtakingly low distances to combustibles the Stromstad can literally sit anywhere. If installed freestanding and with twin wall flue it has rear distance of 15mm and side distances of 180mm. We have never seen such a versatile option for this type of installation.
This stove is exceptional in every way, we simply can’t fault it.

In conclusion
We really hope that this has taken the pain out of your search for a suitable stove for your installation. If you haven’t quite found the stove for you it’s well worth having a look at the other stoves from the manufacturers we have covered.
It wasn’t an easy task getting this handy guide down to our Top 5, there were several serious contenders such as the Charnwood C5 with heat shield and the Salamander Hobbit for its’ cult following. We would love to add to our list, so if you are a manufacturer and your stove should be in our Top 5 then drop as a line here and we will consider it and perhaps expand our Top 5 to a Top 10.
